We efficiently cut drain channels in built-up ice without damaging the underlying structure.
Building owners should keep in mind that standard ice dam protection underlayments --- installed under shingles on sloped roofs --- typically extend only 36" up the slope. A foot or less of built-up ice can easily create a backup of water capable of breaching this protective layer.
